CJ Wright, NP

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

CJ Wright has served children and families for more than 20 years, both as a pediatric nurse for more than 13 years and as a pediatric nurse practitioner for more than eight years. She joined MacArthur Medical Center in 2014.

Since high school, when she began her care career as a phlebotomist in a hospital lab through her Health Occupations Students of America class, she knew that she would have a career in medicine. She has spent much of her career focused on detecting and preventing child abuse, having worked as a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) in an abuse clinic where children, who were physically or sexually abused, were treated. She also lectures Texas Christian University on the subject.

Originally from Mansfield, Texas, she attended nursing school and nurse practitioner school at the University of Texas at Arlington where she received her Bachelors and Masters of Science in nursing. In 2013, she completed her doctor of nursing practice at Texas Christian University. While working on her doctorate, she was selected to participate in an exclusive and prestigious internship program at the International Council of Nurses in Geneva, Switzerland, where she was able to collaborate with the World Health Organization and help update policy statements for the organization.

She cites the experience as “unbelievable” and incredible, and it sparked her interest in healthcare policy work and international medicine. However, as exciting as the experience was, she’ll never leave the patient or the point of care.

Providing care is her highest priority and she often realizes that any time away from patients is often time not as well spent as if could have been. She also considers herself as a patient advocate and providing care – working alongside patients to mentor, guide and care for them – is her absolute passion.

“There is nothing more fulfilling for me professionally than to work with those needing care.”

“I love patient care. I’ve had other jobs where I have done more administrative work and I always missed laying hands on patients,” she said. “There is nothing more fulfilling for me professionally than to work with those needing care.”

She also has a love of education and was an adjunct faculty at TCU for two years, as well as a preceptor for most of her career. “I will always be an educator and enjoy teaching my patients, families and staff.”

She’s lived in Dallas for more than six years, but has always loved the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and also serves on the Junior League of Dallas. When not practicing, she tries to spend as much time as she can with her husband and daughter, flying and skiing.
