What’s fortunate for Dr. Teri Forney’s patients is that there is nothing more that she would rather do than serve those in her care. Without a doubt, meeting the needs of the women she serves at MacArthur Medical Center is her heart’s passion.
Dr. Forney grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. As a child, Dr. Forney doesn’t remember wanting to do anything else but be a physician. Though her parents were not physicians, she remembers her father working in a hospital where coincidentally she decided to attend for medical school.
“I feel incredibly lucky that this is what I get to do” Dr. Forney says. “I love taking care of a woman through her pregnancy… I find it gratifying that I get to be there with a woman during her pregnancy and at the birth of her child.”
Through her work as the patient’s caregiver, she relishes in the partnership of being able to take care of women during extremely important times in their lives.
“I feel incredibly lucky that this is what I get to do.”
She attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology and a minor in biology. Dr. Forney returned home to attend the University of Alabama, School of Public Health, where she earned a Master’s Degree in public health with a focus on health behavior. After earning her medical degree from the University of Alabama, School of Medicine, she went on to complete her training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Tennessee.
As a physician, she specializes in providing care to routine and high risk pregnancies. Dr. Forney also enjoys providing preventative care for women whether it be for an annual exam, birth control, or STD testing.
It is of utmost importance to her to strive to develop deep and lasting relationships with patients. Since becoming a physician, she’s come to profoundly understand that part of her role in practice is to convey her knowledge while offering guidance and compassion in a way that connect patients to the health and healing process.
“It is my goal to be a good steward of the gift of trust and use my knowledge and expertise to make sure that every woman I care for feels informed and empowered to make the best decisions possible to achieve their healthiest self,” she says.
When not in practice, Dr. Forney is a self-prescribed home body. While she adores the diversity of the Metroplex’s people, she loves staying home to watch crime dramas and a bit of true crime television. She loves sports – especially tennis; and working out from time to time.
