Angie Van Valkenburg, MSN, RNC-OB, has worked as a registered nurse in Labor and Delivery for 16 years. During this time, she became an advocate for the mental health of mothers during the postpartum period.
Angie was a Texas Christian Fellow where she began to see the necessity and lack of resources for mothers in the postpartum period. She implemented an evidence-based practice project on the unit for universal screening of all postpartum mothers in the hospital. This project grew and was adopted throughout the hospital system at all 13 entities.
She won the Clinical Excellence in Leadership award from the hospital system to address maternal mental health needs. Angie envisioned how to help moms during this critical period aside from politics, the entrenched fears of the medical community, and insurance tie-downs through an expense-free, peer-supported, maternal mental health program: The Sitting Moon.
Angie has been married for 26 years and is the mother of 3 boys, 23, 20, and 15, and enjoys spending time with her family during her free time.
