The round ligament attaches the front of your uterus to your groin; you have one on each side of your uterus. As your uterus grows, this ligament stretches causing a significant amount of pain in some women. This pain is often a stabbing or throbbing pain and may be worse on one side or the other. Sudden movements sometimes make it worse. Stretching, warm compresses and Tylenol can all help relieve the pain. A pregnancy support belt available at retail stores can also be helpful. It is usually worse in the second trimester but may be present throughout pregnancy. It is a normal discomfort experienced by most women during pregnancy and is not a cause for concern.
