ABOUT NEHAL MASALAWALA, CNM
Certified Nurse Midwife
University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Irving, TX
Midwife Nehal Masalawala has cared our community for several years, with a devout passion for the women and families she serves and with diligence in the care she provides. Throughout her career she’s worked in some of the most intense and exciting care settings, including the ICU and labor and delivery units, where she’s gained experience beyond her years and ensures only the highest level of care is offered to each of the women who entrust her in their health.
I especially love educating patients and empowering them so that they can make informed decisions about their healthcare and the healthcare of their newborn.
Prior to MacArthur Medical Center, Nehal obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience at the University of Texas, Dallas; a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston; and a Master in Science degree in nursing from George Washington University; with a Post-Masters’ certificate from Shenandoah University where she received the Mary Henkel Graduate Academic Excellent Award.
As a midwife, Nehal specialize in women’s gynecological and reproductive health from adolescence to menopause, and managing care of normal and low-risk pregnancies.
She’s always been fascinated with the medical field, science and, most importantly, helping others, but it was not until clinical rotations at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Irving, where she rotated through the different units in the hospital, that she realized she wanted to help women through delivery and birth. After observing her first vaginal delivery and cesarean section, she knew obstetrics and gynecology was her true passion, and then she discovered midwifery – where her heart beats the strongest. For her, midwifery is the perfect combination of providing holistic patient care while integrating the ever-evolving and changing field of science.
However, the most gratifying part of her life in medicine are the unique experiences she shares with each and every patient.
It seems cliché, but each pregnancy and birth is such a unique experience; it is an incredible feeling to assist a woman during her pregnancy and labor while watching her family grow
Being a part of the MacArthur OBGYN family allows her the ability to continue to work and serve the community that she grew up in, the community that is her home. Here, she says, she is able to observe first-hand the commitment MacArthur OBGYN providers who serve each patient with superior quality care, a belief that is very important to her in her own practice.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, especially her daughter. She also is a globe trotter – India is her favorite place to visit – and Nehal is an avid sports fan. She’ll gladly discuss the Cowboys, Mavericks and Rangers anytime with her patients.
