ABOUT DR. STACEY THOMAS

Medical Education

University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX

Stacey Thomas, MD, knew at the age of 10 that she wanted to be a physician in a sign of love and support for her mother who was a registered nurse at a busy hospital in Southern California. But, her dream is older than that; Thomas knew since she can first remember that she wanted to care for people.

Most importantly, now she considers it a privilege to help women with sensitive health issues throughout different stages of life.

I do not believe there is such a thing as too much information when it comes to women’s health. Patients should not feel embarrassed talking to me about anything. After all, if a woman cannot feel comfortable talking about private matters with her gynecologist, who can she talk to about it?

Her treatment specialties include sexual health and education; hereditary cancer testing and prevention; high-risk obstetrics; minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic, robotic, vaginal); and contraception.

I find it so rewarding to help women make sense of a family history of cancer, empower them and their families with the knowledge of their risks, and make individualized prevention strategies.

Additionally, patient comfort and education are particularly important to her for reasons that likely seem obvious. “I have always thought that finding an OB/GYN is like shopping for a bra: (1) It is a very personal experience, (2) one size does not fit all, and (3) to find a good fit, a woman must feel comfortable and well-supported.

I want to help women understand their bodies and make informed decisions consistent with their individual goals and values,” she said. “My mission is to support patients when they celebrate the joys and navigate the challenges that come with being a woman.

She moved to Colleyville, Texas, when she was 12 and eventually graduated from Grapevine High School. She carried her dream of becoming a doctor with her to Duke University in Durham, NC, where she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology.

Returning home of Texas, she attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio before moving on to her residency in OB/GYN at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Prior to joining MacArthur & Associates, she spent three years practicing at the largest medical center in the world, the Texas Medical Center in Houston. During her career, she also has been an active member of the American Congress of Obstetrics & Gynecology, advocating for women’s healthcare.

I have always thought that finding an OB/GYN is like shopping for a bra: (1) It is a very personal experience, (2) one size does not fit all, and (3) to find a good fit, a woman must feel comfortable and well-supported.

In returning to the Metroplex from Houston, Thomas is happy to be home, and grateful for the opportunity to serve to the community that has always been so supportive of her. When she’s not proving care to patients, she spends her time with friends and family, traveling and practicing photography. She’s also got a soft spot in her heart for growing, and caring for, succulent plants. If you ever get a chance to visit her office, she’ll be happy to give you a tour of her window garden.
