Dr. Mamariam Ceesay was born and raised in Gambia, a beautiful but underserved region of West Africa. During her formative years in this community, she discovered her calling – to make a difference in the field of women’s health. Witnessing women’s challenges due to inadequate healthcare, she saw young women losing their lives during childbirth, girls becoming mothers when it wasn’t their choice, and families struggling with fertility and pregnancy loss. Older women, too, often neglected their healthcare needs. These experiences drove Dr. Ceesay’s passion for obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Ceesay pursued her undergraduate education at the University of Texas at Dallas and medical education at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and the University of Texas Austin, Dell Medical School. Along the way, she received numerous awards, including the Rising Star Award from the Methodist Charlton Medical Center Emergency Department in 2012, President’s Achievement Scholarship Award from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2013, and Dean’s Scholarship Award from the Medical College of Wisconsin from 2015 to 2019.

She has also achieved several notable awards in recent years, such as the Clinical Learning Environment Award from Dell Medical School in 2022, the Best Poster Presentation award at the UT Austin Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health Resident Research Day in 2021, the Resident Award from the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology in 2022, and the DEI Award from the UT Austin Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health in 2023.
