Kaela Sparks-Olmos, OTA, CD is a wife and a mother to 3 boys; 14, 12, and 2. She has worked in occupational therapy for 9 years and is also a certified doula. During this time, Kaela has provided in-home education and therapy support to children with special needs and advocated for young families navigating parenthood. After facing her PMAD struggles, Kaela shifted her focus to finding ways to assist perinatal women with meeting their emotional health needs. Kaela co-founded The Sitting Moon, a nonprofit organization that focuses on helping mothers in the postpartum period combat depression and anxiety by providing education and guiding their preparedness. Kaela believes that with focused education and adequate support, we can positively impact moms’ emotional and mental health in our community.
The Sitting Moon is committed to promoting awareness of depression in perinatal women through educational workshops that empower women before birth through the postpartum period. We provide resources such as informational handouts for pregnant women about depression, perinatal mood disorders (PMDs) or postpartum mood disorders (PPMDs).
