What is an ovulation predictor kit?
Ovulation predictor kits are used to help identify the most fertile time during a woman’s menstrual cycle. This will help her to know when the best time is to try to conceive.
How does it work?
The test measures luteinizing hormone (LH) in the urine. This hormone increases or “surges” just prior to ovulation.
How do you use ovulation predictor kits?
In a normal 28 day cycle, you want to start testing around day 10 or 11. Day 1 is the first day of your period. You should test daily until a positive result is seen. When the test is positive, it indicates that you will likely ovulate within the next 24-36 hours. This allows you to time intercourse to the most fertile time of the cycle.
What happens if we have intercourse after I have already ovulated?
If you have intercourse after ovulation has occurred, it is usually too late to get pregnant.
When do I use these tests?
These tests can be used during a normal cycle or may be recommended by your doctor if you are undergoing ovulation induction with either Clomid or Femara.
